Uroqid-Acid No. 2


Generic Name: Methenamine/Sodium Biphosphate Tablets (meth-EN-ah-meen/so-DEE-um bye-FOS-fate)
Brand Name: Uroqid-Acid No. 2

Uroqid-Acid No. 2 is used for:

Preventing and treating urinary tract infections.

Uroqid-Acid No. 2 is a urinary antiseptic and urinary acidifier combination. It works by concentrating in the urine as formaldehyde, which kills bacteria in the urine.

Do NOT use Uroqid-Acid No. 2 if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Uroqid-Acid No. 2
  • you have kidney problems, too much phosphate in your blood, or you are severely dehydrated
  • you are taking a sulfonamide (eg, sulfamethizole)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Uroqid-Acid No. 2 :

Some medical conditions may interact with Uroqid-Acid No. 2 . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you are on a low-salt diet
  • if you have a fever or chills, diarrhea, a stomach infection, toxemia of pregnancy, liver problems, or gout
  • if you have a history of heart problems, swelling, high blood pressure, pancreatitis, thyroid problems, or electrolyte problems

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Uroqid-Acid No. 2 . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Sulfonamides (eg, sulfamethizole) because the effectiveness of Uroqid-Acid No. 2 may be decreased

How to use Uroqid-Acid No. 2 :

Use Uroqid-Acid No. 2 as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Take Uroqid-Acid No. 2 with food if it upsets your stomach.
  • Before you begin using an antacid, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you miss a dose of Uroqid-Acid No. 2 , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Uroqid-Acid No. 2 .

Important safety information:

  • Uroqid-Acid No. 2 may interfere with certain lab test results. Be sure your doctors and lab professionals know you are taking Uroqid-Acid No. 2 .
  • LAB TESTS, including urine pH, may be performed to monitor your progress. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: It is unknown if Uroqid-Acid No. 2 can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant while taking Uroqid-Acid No. 2 , discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Uroqid-Acid No. 2 during pregnancy. Uroqid-Acid No. 2 is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Uroqid-Acid No. 2 , check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Uroqid-Acid No. 2 :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Nausea; upset stomach.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blood in the urine; joint pain; mental/mood changes; muscle cramps; numbness or tingling of lips, hands, or feet; seizures; unusual thirst; unusual weakness; unusual weight gain.

Proper storage of Uroqid-Acid No. 2 :

Store Uroqid-Acid No. 2 at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Uroqid-Acid No. 2 out of the reach of children and away from pets.
