Generic Name: Eprosartan (ep-roe-SAR-tan)
Brand Name: Teveten

When used in pregnancy after the third month, Teveten can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. Contact your health care provider as soon as possible if you suspect that you are pregnant.


Teveten is used for:

Treating high blood pressure when used alone or in combination with other medicines. It may also be used to treat certain conditions as determined by your doctor that may not be listed in the professional package insert.

Teveten is an angiotensin 2 receptor blocker. It works by decreasing certain chemicals in the body which cause blood vessels to constrict (narrow), and sodium and fluid to be stored by the kidneys.

Do NOT use Teveten if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Teveten
  • you are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Teveten :

Some medical conditions may interact with Teveten . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have dehydration, low blood sodium, or kidney problems

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Teveten . However, no specific interactions with Teveten are known at this time.

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Teveten may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Teveten :

  • Teveten can be taken with or without food.
  • Use Teveten regularly to receive the most benefit from it.
  • Continue to use Teveten even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
  • If you miss a dose of Teveten , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Teveten .

Important safety information:

  • Patients being treated for high blood pressure often feel tired or run down for a few weeks after beginning taking blood pressure medications. Continue taking your medicine even though you may not feel quite normal. Contact your doctor or pharmacist about any new symptoms.
  • Patients being treated for high blood pressure should avoid using nonprescription medicines that contain stimulants, such as products used for dieting (appetite suppressants) or for cold symptoms (eg, pseudoephedrine).
  • Do not use a salt substitute or a potassium supplement without checking with your doctor.
  • LAB TESTS, including blood pressure, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Teveten is not recommended for use in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: When Teveten is used after the third month of pregnancy, it can cause injury or even death to the developing fetus. Stop taking Teveten as soon as possible if you become pregnant and contact your doctor. It is unknown if Teveten is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Teveten .

Possible side effects of Teveten :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with this product. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; hoarseness).

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include lightheadedness, especially upon standing; very fast or slow heartbeat.

Proper storage of Teveten :

Store Teveten at 68 to 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Teveten out of the reach of children and away from pets.
