Why is Terazol prescribed?

Terazol is prescribed to treat candidiasis (a yeast-like fungal infection) of the vulva and vagina.

Most important fact about Terazol

Keep using Terazol for the full time of treatment, even if the infection seems to have disappeared. If you stop too soon, the infection could return. You should continue using this medicine during your menstrual period.

How should you use Terazol?

Follow these steps to apply Terazol:

1. Load the applicator to the fill line with cream, or unwrap a suppository, wet it with warm water, and place it in the applicator as shown in the instructions you received with the product.
2. Lie on your back with knees drawn up.
3. Gently insert the applicator high into the vagina and push the plunger.
4. Withdraw the applicator and wash it with soap and water.

To protect your clothing, wear a sanitary napkin. Do not use tampons because they will absorb the medicine. Wear cotton underwear--avoid synthetic fabrics such as rayon or nylon. Do not douche unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Dry the genital area thoroughly after a shower, bath, or swim. Change out of a wet bathing suit or damp workout clothes as soon as possible. Moisture encourages the growth of yeast.

Try not to scratch. It can cause more irritation and can spread the infection.

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule.

What side effects may occur?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using Terazol.

• More common side effects may include:
  Abdominal pain, body pain, burning, genital pain or irritation, headache, menstrual pain

Why should Terazol not be prescribed?

If you have ever had an allergic reaction to or are sensitive to terconazole or any other ingredients of Terazol, you should not use Terazol. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced.

Special warnings about Terazol

If irritation, an allergic reaction, fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms develop while using Terazol, notify your doctor.

To avoid re-infection while using Terazol, either avoid sexual intercourse or make sure your partner uses a non-latex condom.

Terazol 3 suppositories can interact with latex products such as diaphragms and certain type of condoms. Use some other method of birth control while you are using Terazol.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking Terazol

No interactions have been reported.

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Since Terazol is absorbed from the vagina, it should not be used during the first trimester (first 3 months) of pregnancy unless your doctor considers it essential to your health. It is not known whether Terazol appears in breast milk. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding your baby while using Terazol.

Recommended dosage

ADULTS

Terazol 3 and Terazol 7 Vaginal Cream

The recommended dose is 1 full applicator (5 grams) of cream inserted into the vagina once daily at bedtime. Apply Terazol 3 for 3 consecutive days; apply Terazol 7 for 7.

Terazol 3 Vaginal Suppositories

The recommended dose is 1 suppository inserted into the vagina once daily at bedtime for 3 consecutive days.

CHILDREN

Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children.

Overdosage

There has been no reported overdose of Terazol. Any medication used in excess, however, can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of Terazol, seek medical attention immediately.
