Why is Polyethylene glycol prescribed?

Polyethylene glycol is a remedy for constipation. It works by retaining water in the stool, softening it and increasing the frequency of bowel movements. It may take up to 2 to 4 days to work.

Unless your doctor directs otherwise, do not use Polyethylene glycol for more than 2 weeks. Sustained, frequent, or excessive use can upset the body"s chemical balance, and can lead to dependence on laxatives.

Dissolve 1 capful or packet of Polyethylene glycol powder (17 grams) in 8 ounces of water, juice, soda, coffee, or tea.
