Podocon


Generic Name: Podophyllum Resin (pode-o-FIL-um)
Brand Name: Podocon and Pododerm

Podocon is used for:

Removing genital warts. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Podocon is a cytotoxic agent. It works by preventing growth of the wart tissue.

Do NOT use Podocon if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Podocon
  • you are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • you have diabetes or poor blood circulation
  • you are taking steroids (eg, prednisone)
  • you are treating bleeding warts, warts with hair growing from them, moles, or birthmarks
  • the wart to be treated or the surrounding skin is inflamed or irritated

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Podocon :

Some medical conditions may interact with Podocon . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are planning to become pregnant
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Podocon . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Steroids (eg, prednisone) because they decrease Podocon "s effectiveness

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Podocon may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Podocon :

Use Podocon as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Podocon is usually administered at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic. If you are using Podocon at home, carefully follow the procedures taught to you by your health care provider.
  • Thoroughly clean the affected area. Use the supplied applicator to apply the medicine sparingly to the wart. Avoid contact with healthy skin. Allow to dry completely.
  • After the appropriate treatment time has elapsed, remove the dried medicine with alcohol or soap and water as directed by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of Podocon , contact your doctor immediately.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Podocon .

Important safety information:

  • Podocon is for external use only. Do not get Podocon in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you get Podocon in your eyes, rinse immediately with cool water.
  • Do not use Podocon on bleeding warts, warts with hair growing from them, moles, or birthmarks.
  • Do not use Podocon if the wart to be treated or the surrounding skin is inflamed or irritated.
  • Do not treat large areas or numerous warts at the same time.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Use of Podocon during pregnancy has resulted in birth defects, fetal death, and stillbirth. Do not use Podocon if you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. It is unknown if Podocon is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Podocon .

Possible side effects of Podocon :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with Podocon . Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); burning, tingling, or numbness of the skin, hands, legs, or feet; diarrhea; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; loss of consciousness; nausea; severe or persistent constipation; unusual bruising or bleeding; vomiting.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include clumsiness; confusion; diarrhea; hallucinations; irritability; nausea; nervousness; stomach pain; vomiting. Podocon may be harmful if swallowed.

Proper storage of Podocon :

Store Podocon at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Podocon out of the reach of children and away from pets.
