Ocuflox Solution

Generic Name: Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution (oh-FLOX-uh-SIN)
Brand Name: Ocuflox

Ocuflox Solution is used for:

Treating and preventing eye infections associated with conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers caused by certain bacteria in patients 1 year of age and older.

Ocuflox Solution is an ophthalmic fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It stops or prevents bacterial infections of the eyeball by either killing susceptible bacteria or inhibiting their growth.

Do NOT use Ocuflox Solution if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Ocuflox Solution
you have had a severe allergic reaction to another fluoroquinolone antibiotic (eg, ciprofloxacin)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Ocuflox Solution:

Some medical conditions may interact with Ocuflox Solution. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Ocuflox Solution. However, no specific interactions with Ocuflox Solution are known at this time.

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Ocuflox Solution may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Ocuflox Solution:

Use Ocuflox Solution as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

To use Ocuflox Solution, first, wash your hands. Tilt your head back and, with your index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Drop the medicine into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Do not blink and keep your eyes closed for 1 or 2 minutes. Remove excess medicine around your eye with a clean tissue, being careful not to touch your eye. Wash your hands to remove any medicine that may be on them.
Ocuflox Solution works best if used at the same time each day.
To clear up your infection completely, continue using Ocuflox Solution for the full course of treatment, even if you feel better in a few days.
To prevent germs from entering your medicine, do not touch the tip of the eye applicator with the eye, fingers, or any other surface.
Ocuflox Solution should not be used as an injection.
If you miss a dose of Ocuflox Solution, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:

Ocuflox Solution may cause blurred vision. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that can be dangerous until you know how you react to Ocuflox Solution.
Notify your dentist or doctor that you are taking Ocuflox Solution before you have any dental work or surgery.
If you wear contact lenses, do not wear your regular contact lenses while you are using Ocuflox Solution. Sterilize lenses according to manufacturer"s directions and begin wearing them again only as directed by your doctor.
It is important to use Ocuflox Solution for the full course of treatment. Failure to do so may decrease the effectiveness of this treatment and may increase the risk that the bacteria will no longer be sensitive to this medicine and it will not be able to be treated by this or certain other antibacterial medicines in the future.
Do not use Ocuflox Solution for future eye problems unless directed by your doctor.
Ocuflox Solution is not recommended for use in CHILDREN younger than 1 year of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Ocuflox Solution during pregnancy. It is not known if Ocuflox Solution is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Ocuflox Solution.

Possible side effects of Ocuflox Solution:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Blurred vision; burning or discomfort in the eye, including stinging, redness, and itching; dry eyes; eye pain; foreign body sensation; sensitivity to sunlight; tearing.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); infection (fever, chills, sore throat); itching; loss of consciousness; redness; unusual sensitivity to light.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Ocuflox Solution may be harmful if swallowed.

Proper storage of Ocuflox Solution:

Store between 59 degrees and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly closed container, away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Ocuflox Solution out of the reach of children and away from pets.
