It increases the amount of salt and water you lose in your urine. Hydrochlorothiazide is used to lower blood pressure and to decrease edema (swelling). Fosinopril is in a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). Fosinopril is used to lower blood pressure and to relieve the symptoms of congestive heart failure, including shortness of breath and swelling of the legs. Fosinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Fosinopril and hydrochlorothiazide may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. What is the most important information I should know about fosinopril and hydrochlorothiazide?Fosinopril is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that fosinopril is known to harm an unborn baby. When used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, fosinopril can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. Do not take fosinopril and hydrochlorothiazide if you are pregnant.Fosinopril may increase the risk of dangerous allergic reactions.
