Methylphenidate is used for:Treating attention deficit disorder (ADD). It is also used to treat uncontrollable periods of daytime sleep (narcolepsy). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant. Exactly how it works is not known. Do NOT use Methylphenidate if:

When used for long periods of time or at high doses, Methylphenidate may not work as well and may require higher doses to obtain the same effect as when originally taken. This is known as TOLERANCE. Talk with your doctor if Methylphenidate stops working well. Do not take more than prescribed. Some people who use Methylphenidate for a long time may develop a need to continue taking it. People who take high doses are also at risk. This is known as DEPENDENCE or addiction. Do not suddenly stop taking Methylphenidate . If you do, you may have WITHDRAWAL symptoms. These may include depression or other mental problems. If you need to stop Methylphenidate , your doctor will lower your dose over time. Possible side effects of Methylphenidate :All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

If OVERDOSE is suspected:Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include confusion; dilated pupils; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; flushing; hallucinations; loss of consciousness; muscle twitching; seizures; severe or persistent headache; tremors; unusual sweating; vomiting. Proper storage of Methylphenidate :Store Methylphenidate at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Methylphenidate out of the reach of children and away from pets. General information:
