Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) is used for:

Preventing infection caused by certain types of meningococcal bacteria (eg, meningococcal meningitis).

Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) is a vaccine. It works by causing your immune system to produce antibodies that help to prevent infection by certain meningococcal bacteria.

Do NOT use Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) , including thimerosal
you are ill or have an infection
you are also receiving a whole-cell pertussis or whole-cell typhoid vaccine

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) :

Some medical conditions may interact with Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine (especially those that suppress the immune system), herbal preparation, or dietary supplement

if you have immune system problems or have recently had or are planning to have any other vaccinations

Medicines that suppress the immune system such as corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), cancer chemotherapy (eg, methotrexate), or cyclosporine because effectiveness of Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) may be decreased
Whole-cell pertussis or whole-cell typhoid vaccine because the risk of side effects may be increased

Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and away from pets. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain local regulations for proper disposal.
If you miss a dose of Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) , contact your doctor immediately.

Important safety information:

Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) may not work as well in patients who have immune system problems or are taking medicine that suppresses the immune system, such as corticosteroids (eg, prednisone). Tell your doctor if you have any immune system problems or other illnesses.
Protective antibody levels may be achieved within 7 to 10 days after vaccination.
Use Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 2 years of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: It is unknown if Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant while taking Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) , discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) during pregnancy. It is unknown if Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) , check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Meningococcal Vaccine (A, C, Y, W-135) :

Chills; fever (low grade); headache; tenderness, pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site.
