Mag-Ox is used for:

Treating acid indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach, and low magnesium levels in the body. It also may be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Mag-Ox is an essential mineral. It works by adding magnesium to your body if your magnesium levels are low. As an antacid, it works by neutralizing stomach acid.

Do NOT use Mag-Ox if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Mag-Ox

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Mag-Ox :

Some medical conditions may interact with Mag-Ox . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have appendicitis, diarrhea, a blockage of your intestines, heart problems, or kidney problems

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Mag-Ox . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because the actions and side effects of these medicines may be increased
  • Penicillamine because the effectiveness of Mag-Ox may be decreased

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Mag-Ox may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Mag-Ox :

Use Mag-Ox as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Take Mag-Ox with food.
  • If you are also taking a bisphosphonate (eg, alendronic acid), digoxin, a quinolone (eg, ciprofloxacin), or a tetracycline (eg, doxycycline) along with Mag-Ox , they should be taken at least 2 to 4 hours apart.
  • If you miss a dose of Mag-Ox and are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Mag-Ox .

Important safety information:

  • Do not take more than 2 tablets in a 24-hour period or for more than 2 weeks without checking with your health care provider.
  • If you are taking Mag-Ox for relief of acid indigestion, heartburn, or sour stomach and your symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks, if they become worse, or if you experience black, tarry stools or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, check with your doctor.
  • LAB TESTS, including magnesium levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Mag-Ox is not recommended for CHILDREN younger than 6 years of age. Safety and effectiveness of this age group have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Mag-Ox during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for instructions on using Mag-Ox during pregnancy. It is unknown if Mag-Ox is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding, check with your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Mag-Ox :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:


Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; nausea; slow reflexes; vomit that looks like coffee grounds.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (, or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include confusion; dizziness; flushing; loss of consciousness; muscle weakness; severe drowsiness; slow heartbeat.

Proper storage of Mag-Ox :

Store Mag-Ox at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Mag-Ox out of the reach of children and away from pets.
