Levothyroxine Solution, used alone or with other medicines, has been used for weight reduction. Large doses may cause serious or life-threatening situations, particularly when used with other medicines that reduce the appetite.

Levothyroxine Solution is used for:

Treating low thyroid function. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Levothyroxine Solution is a thyroid hormone. It works by regulating the body"s metabolism.

Do NOT use Levothyroxine Solution if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Levothyroxine Solution

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Levothyroxine Solution:

Some medical conditions may interact with Levothyroxine Solution. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
you have certain adrenal gland problems (eg, Addison disease), an overactive or underactive thyroid, very high amounts of thyroid hormone in your blood, pituitary gland problems, fertility problems, heart problems or a recent heart attack, high blood pressure, or diabetes
you have recently had surgery or are scheduled to have surgery

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Levothyroxine Solution. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because side effects, including risk of bleeding, may be increased by Levothyroxine Solution
Digitalis glycosides (eg, digoxin) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Levothyroxine Solution

How to use Levothyroxine Solution:

Use Levothyroxine Solution as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Levothyroxine Solution is usually given as an injection at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic. If you will be using Levothyroxine Solution at home, a health care provider will teach you how to use it. Be sure you understand how to use Levothyroxine Solution. Follow the procedures you are taught when you use a dose. Contact your health care provider if you have any questions.
Do not use Levothyroxine Solution if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged.
When drawing up a dose into a syringe, be sure to follow the procedure demonstrated to you to prevent contamination of the vial, syringe, or medicine. Never touch the rubber stopper of the vial or the needle of the syringe with your fingers.
Always carefully check that you have drawn up the correct dose before administration.
Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and pets. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Ask your health care provider how to dispose of these materials after use. Follow all local rules for disposal.
Use Levothyroxine Solution on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it.
Using Levothyroxine Solution at the same time each day will help you remember to use it.
If you miss a dose of Levothyroxine Solution, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:

Diabetes patients - Levothyroxine Solution may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
Check with your doctor if you experience change in appetite, chest pain, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, headache, increased heart rate, increased sensitivity to heat, increased sweating, nervousness, shortness of breath, trembling or shaking hands, or weight loss. These symptoms may mean that your dose needs to be adjusted. Do not adjust your dose or stop taking Levothyroxine Solution without checking with your doctor.
Symptoms of low thyroid levels include fatigue; muscle aches; constipation; dry skin; weight gain; slow heartbeat; sensitivity to cold; or dry, brittle hair that tends to fall out easily. These symptoms should disappear as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Levothyroxine Solution before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
Lab tests, including thyroid function tests, may be performed while you use Levothyroxine Solution. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Levothyroxine Solution has not been shown to cause harm to the fetus if you take it while you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. Your dose may need to be changed. Levothyroxine Solution is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Levothyroxine Solution, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Levothyroxine Solution:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with this product. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); change in appetite; chest pain; diarrhea; difficulty sleeping; headache; increased heart rate; increased sensitivity to heat; increased sweating; nervousness; shortness of breath; trembling or shaking hands; weight loss.

Proper storage of Levothyroxine Solution:

Store Levothyroxine Solution at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Protect from light. Throw away any unused portion. Keep Levothyroxine Solution out of the reach of children and away from pets.
