Hycamtin

Generic Name: Topotecan (toe-poe-TEE-kan)
Brand Name: Hycamtin

Hycamtin may cause severe, even fatal, blood disorders (eg, bone marrow suppression, neutropenia). Bone marrow suppression decreases your body"s ability to fight infections. Immediately notify your doctor if you have symptoms of an infection (persistent sore throat or fever), easy bruising or bleeding, or unusual fatigue. Hycamtin should only be used under close medical supervision. Monitoring and laboratory tests (eg, blood cell counts) will need to be performed.

Hycamtin is used for:

Treating ovarian cancer and small cell lung cancer that do not respond well to other types of cancer treatment. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Hycamtin is an antineoplastic. It works by killing cancer cells.

Do NOT use Hycamtin if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Hycamtin
  • you are pregnant or are breast-feeding
  • you have bone marrow depression or severely low blood cell counts

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
