Elidel

Generic Name: Pimecrolimus (pim-e-KROE-li-mus)
Brand Name: Elidel

The long-term safety of Elidel has not been determined. Because rare cases of cancer (eg, lymphoma, skin cancer) have been reported, continuous long-term use should be avoided and the application of Elidel should be limited to the affected areas. Elidel should not be used in children younger than 2 years old.

Elidel is used for:

Treating atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, in patients who cannot take or whose symptoms do not respond to other treatments.

Elidel is a topical immunomodulator, which means it modulates or "changes" the body"s immune system in some way. In eczema, it works by preventing the activation of certain immune cells and blocks the release of certain chemicals that cause inflammation, redness, and itching of the skin.

Do NOT use Elidel if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Elidel

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
