The cefprozil (Cefzil) oral suspension contains 28 mg of phenylalanine per teaspoon (5 mL) of suspension for both the 125 mg/5 mL and 250 mg/5 mL dosage strengths. Individuals with phenylketonuria may need to monitor their intake of phenylalanine. Cefprozil is in the FDA pregnancy category B. This means that it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not, however, take cefprozil without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether cefprozil passes into breast milk.
