Brinzolamide Drops

Generic Name: Brinzolamide Eye Drops (brin-ZOE-lah-mide)
Brand Name: Azopt

Brinzolamide Drops is used for:

Treating elevated pressure inside the eye in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Brinzolamide Drops is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It works by decreasing the production of fluid inside the eye, thereby lowering pressure within the eye.

Do NOT use Brinzolamide Drops if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Brinzolamide Drops

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if this applies to you.

Before using Brinzolamide Drops:

Tell your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have liver or kidney disease
  • if you wear contact lenses
  • if you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, dizziness) to any other sulfonamide medicine, such as acetazolamide, celecoxib, certain diuretics (eg, hydrochlorothiazide), glyburide, probenecid, sulfamethoxazole, valdecoxib, or zonisamide

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Brinzolamide Drops. Because little, if any, of Brinzolamide Drops is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.

Ask your health care provider if Brinzolamide Drops may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Brinzolamide Drops:

Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Shake well before each use.
  • To use Brinzolamide Drops in the eye, first, wash your hands. Tilt your head back. Using your index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Drop the medicine into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Immediately use your finger to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eyelid for 1 to 2 minutes. Do not blink. Remove excess medicine around your eye with a clean, dry tissue, being careful not to touch your eye. Wash your hands to remove any medicine that may be on them.
  • To prevent germs from contaminating your medicine, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface, including the eye. Keep the container tightly closed.
  • If you are using another medicine for your eye, use the medicines at least 10 minutes apart.
  • Remove soft contact lenses before you use Brinzolamide Drops; lenses may be placed back in the eyes 15 minutes after use of Brinzolamide Drops.
  • If you miss a dose of Brinzolamide Drops, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Brinzolamide Drops.
