What is dapsone topical?

Dapsone topical is an antiinfective medication.

Dapsone topical is a medicine used to help treat acne.

What is the most important information I should know about dapsone topical?

Contact your doctor immediately if you develop a rash while using dapsone topical. In rare cases, dapsone topical has been associated with serious, and sometimes fatal, skin reactions.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before using dapsone topical?

Do not use dapsone topical without first talking to your doctor if you have

glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency;
anemia; or
liver disease.

You may not be able to use dapsone topical, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you have any of the conditions listed above.

Dapsone topical is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether it will be harmful to an unborn baby. Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and use only the next regularly scheduled dose.

Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
