DescriptionSolifenacin ((sol-i- FEN-a-cin)) is used to treat bladder problems such as frequent need to urinate or loss of control of urinary function. This medicine is available only with your doctor"s prescription, in the following dosage forms:
Before Using This MedicineIn deciding to use a medicine, the risks of using the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For solifenacin, the following should be considered: Allergies—Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to solifenacin. Also tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes. Pregnancy—Solifenacin has not been studied in pregnant women. However, studies in animals have shown that solifenacin may cause unwanted effects in the fetus. Before taking this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant. Breast-feeding—It is not known whether solifenacin passes into breast milk. However, solifenacin does pass into the milk of animals. Mothers who are taking this medicine and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor. Children—Studies on this medicine have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of solifenacin in children with use in other age groups. Older adults—This medicine has been tested and has not been shown to cause different side effects or problems in older people than is does in younger adults. However, elderly patients are more likely to be sensitive to anticholinergic agents and may require a lower dose. Other medicines—Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking solifenacin, it is especially important that your doctor and pharmacist know if you are taking any of the following:

Proper Use of This MedicineDosing—The dose of solifenacin will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor"s orders or the directions on the label . The following information includes only the average doses of solifenacin. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.
Missed dose—If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses. Storage—To store this medicine:
Precautions While Using This MedicineThis medicine may cause some people to have vision problems. Make sure your vision is clear before you drive or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not able to see well. Use caution during exercise or hot weather. Overheating may result in heat exhaustion. This medicine may cause constipation, call your doctor if you get severe stomach pain or become constipated for 3 or more days. This medicine may cause dryness of the mouth. For temporary relief of mouth dryness, use sugarless candy or gum, melt bits of ice in your mouth, or use a saliva substitute. However, if your mouth continues to feel dry for more than 2 weeks, check with your medical doctor or dentist. Side Effects of This MedicineAlong with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention. Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: Symptoms of Overdose Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur Blurred vision; confusion; constipation; delirium or hallucinations; difficult urination; dizziness; drowsiness; dry eyes, mouth, nose, or throat; dry skin; eye pain; failure of heel-to-toe exam; fast heartbeat; fixed and dilated pupils; flushing or redness of face; nausea; tremors; troubled breathing; vomiting Other side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, check with your doctor if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome. More Common Difficulty having a bowel movement (stool); dry mouth Less common Acid or sour stomach; belching; bladder pain; bloody or cloudy urine; blurred vision; body aches or pain; chills; congestion; cough; decrease in frequency of urination; decrease in urine volume; diarrhea; difficulty in passing urine; difficult, burning, or painful urination; discouragement; dizziness; [dribbling] painful urination; dry eyes; dryness or soreness of throat; feeling sad or empty; fever; frequent urge to urinate; general feeling of discomfort or illness; headache; heartburn; hoarseness; indigestion; irritability; joint pain; lack of appetite; loss of interest or pleasure;; lower back or side pain; muscle aches and pains; nausea; nervousness; pounding in the ears; runny nose; shivering; slow or fast heartbeat; sore throat; stomach discomfort upset or pain; sweating; swelling of the legs; tender, swollen glands in neck; tiredness; trouble concentrating; trouble sleeping; trouble in swallowing; unusual tiredness or weakness; upper stomach pain; voice changes; vomiting Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some patients.
