Why is Triaz prescribed?

Triaz gel is used to treat acne. It can be used alone or with other treatments, including antibiotics and products that contain retinoic acid, sulfur, or salicylic acid.

Significant clearing of the skin should occur after 2 to 3 weeks of treatment with Triaz.

How should you use Triaz?

Cleanse the affected area thoroughly before applying the medication. Triaz should then be gently rubbed in.

What side effects may occur?

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, notify your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine whether it is safe for you to continue using Triaz.

    Allergic reaction (itching, rash in area where the medication was applied), excessive drying (red and peeling skin and possible swelling)

Why should Triaz not be prescribed?

Do not use Triaz if you are sensitive to or allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any other components of the drug.

Special warnings about Triaz

Triaz is for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, lips, or throat. If the drug does touch these areas accidentally, rinse with water.

If you are sensitive to medications derived from benzoic acid (including certain topical anesthetics) or to cinnamon, you may also be sensitive to Triaz.

If your skin becomes severely irritated, stop using the drug and call your doctor.

Triaz can bleach or discolor hair or colored fabric.

Stay out of the sun as much as possible, and use a sunscreen.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking Triaz

When used with sunscreens containing PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), Triaz may cause temporary skin discoloration.

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

The effects of Triaz during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. It should be used only if clearly needed. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This medication may appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If Triaz is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to stop breastfeeding until your treatment with Triaz is finished.

Recommended dosage

ADULTS AND CHILDREN 12 YEARS AND OVER

Gently rub Triaz gel into all affected areas once or twice a day. If you are fair-skinned or live in an excessively dry climate, you should probably start with one application a day. You can continue to use Triaz for as long as your doctor thinks it is necessary.

Overdosage

Overdosage of Triaz can result in excessive scaling of the skin, reddening skin, or swelling due to fluid retention. Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention.
