Taxotere

Generic Name: Docetaxel (doe-se-TAX-el)
Brand Name: Taxotere

Taxotere may cause severe allergic reactions, decreased ability to fight infection (weakened immune system), and severe swelling. Taxotere should not be used by patients who have had a severe allergic reaction to Taxotere or other medicines containing polysorbate 80. There have been a higher number of deaths related to Taxotere when it is used in higher doses or in patients with abnormal liver function, non-small cell lung cancer, or a history of platinum-based chemotherapy treatment (eg, cisplatin). Lab tests will be required to monitor blood cell counts and liver function. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop difficulty breathing, swelling, fast heartbeat, dizziness, faintness, symptoms of an infection (eg, persistent fever, sore throat), unusual bruising or bleeding, mouth sores, or skin rash or irritation.

Taxotere is used for:

Treating certain types of breast, prostate, non-small cell lung, or advanced stomach cancer. Taxotere may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Taxotere is an antineoplastic agent. It works by stopping the growth and reproduction of cancer cells in the body.

Do NOT use Taxotere if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Taxotere or polysorbate 80
  • you have a severely low white blood cell count

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
