Pododerm


Generic Name: Podophyllum Resin (pode-o-FIL-um)
Brand Name: Podocon and Pododerm

Pododerm is used for:

Removing genital warts. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Pododerm is a cytotoxic agent. It works by preventing growth of the wart tissue.

Do NOT use Pododerm if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Pododerm
  • you are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • you have diabetes or poor blood circulation
  • you are taking steroids (eg, prednisone)
  • you are treating bleeding warts, warts with hair growing from them, moles, or birthmarks
  • the wart to be treated or the surrounding skin is inflamed or irritated

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Pododerm :

Some medical conditions may interact with Pododerm . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are planning to become pregnant
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Pododerm . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Steroids (eg, prednisone) because they decrease Pododerm "s effectiveness

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Pododerm may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Pododerm :

Use Pododerm as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Pododerm is usually administered at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic. If you are using Pododerm at home, carefully follow the procedures taught to you by your health care provider.
  • Thoroughly clean the affected area. Use the supplied applicator to apply the medicine sparingly to the wart. Avoid contact with healthy skin. Allow to dry completely.
  • After the appropriate treatment time has elapsed, remove the dried medicine with alcohol or soap and water as directed by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of Pododerm , contact your doctor immediately.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Pododerm .

Important safety information:

  • Pododerm is for external use only. Do not get Pododerm in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you get Pododerm in your eyes, rinse immediately with cool water.
  • Do not use Pododerm on bleeding warts, warts with hair growing from them, moles, or birthmarks.
  • Do not use Pododerm if the wart to be treated or the surrounding skin is inflamed or irritated.
  • Do not treat large areas or numerous warts at the same time.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Use of Pododerm during pregnancy has resulted in birth defects, fetal death, and stillbirth. Do not use Pododerm if you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. It is unknown if Pododerm is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Pododerm .

Possible side effects of Pododerm :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with Pododerm . Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); burning, tingling, or numbness of the skin, hands, legs, or feet; diarrhea; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; loss of consciousness; nausea; severe or persistent constipation; unusual bruising or bleeding; vomiting.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include clumsiness; confusion; diarrhea; hallucinations; irritability; nausea; nervousness; stomach pain; vomiting. Pododerm may be harmful if swallowed.

Proper storage of Pododerm :

Store Pododerm at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Pododerm out of the reach of children and away from pets.
