Phytonadione

Generic Name: Phytonadione Injection (fye-toe-na-DYE-one)
Brand Name: Generic only. No brands available.

Severe and sometimes fatal reactions have occurred after injection of Phytonadione into the vein or muscle. These reactions often resemble severe allergic reactions, including shock and severe heart and/or breathing problems. Some patients have experienced these reactions after receiving Phytonadione for the first time. Phytonadione should only be injected into the vein or muscle in situations in which it cannot be injected under the skin and the benefits outweigh the risks.

Treating bleeding problems caused by low vitamin K blood levels or decreased vitamin K activity (eg, caused by certain anticoagulants, antibiotics, salicylates, other medicines, certain diseases that decrease absorption or production of vitamin K). It may also be used to treat or prevent certain bleeding problems (hemorrhagic disease) in newborns.

Phytonadione is a vitamin K. It works by helping the liver to produce blood clotting factors.
