What is pantothenate?

Pantothenate is vitamin B5. Vitamins are naturally occurring substances necessary for many processes in the body. Pantothenate is important for the breakdown of the foods we eat into substances the body can use. Pantothenate is also important in the creation of hormones and other substances in the body.

Pantothenate is used to prevent and to treat deficiencies of pantothenate.

Pantothenate may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

What is the most important information I should know about pantothenate?

Do not take more pantothenate than is prescribed for you or than is directed on the package.

Who should not take pantothenate?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

What happens if I overdose?

It is not known whether an overdose of pantothenate is dangerous. If you suspect an overdose, call a doctor or a poison control center for advice.

What should I avoid while taking pantothenate?

There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activities while you are taking pantothenate unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Pantothenate side effects

Stop taking pantothenate and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
