Mephyton


Generic Name: Phytonadione Tablets (fye-toe-na-DYE-one)
Brand Name: Mephyton

Mephyton is used for:

Treating bleeding problems caused by low vitamin K blood levels or decreased vitamin K activity (eg, caused by certain anticoagulants, antibiotics, salicylates, certain liver problems).

Mephyton is a vitamin K. It works by helping the liver to produce blood clotting factors.

Do NOT use Mephyton if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Mephyton

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Mephyton :

Some medical conditions may interact with Mephyton . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have liver problems

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Mephyton . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because effectiveness may be decreased by Mephyton

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Mephyton may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Mephyton :

Use Mephyton as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Do not take large doses of vitamins (megadoses or megavitamin therapy) while taking Mephyton unless directed by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of Mephyton , contact your doctor immediately.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Mephyton .

Important safety information:

  • Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Mephyton .
  • LAB TESTS, including blood clotting tests, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Use Mephyton with extreme caution in CHILDREN. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed. NEWBORN CHILDREN may be more sensitive to its effects.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: It is unknown if Mephyton can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant while taking Mephyton , discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Mephyton during pregnancy. It is unknown if Mephyton is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Mephyton , check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Mephyton :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. When used in small doses, no COMMON side effects have been reported with this product. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue).

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Proper storage of Mephyton :

Store Mephyton at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly closed container. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Mephyton out of the reach of children and away from pets.
