Innohep

Innohep is used for:

Treating deep vein blood clots in conjunction with warfarin.

Innohep is an anticoagulant. It works by blocking the formation of blood clots, including fibrin clots.

Do NOT use Innohep if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Innohep
• you are allergic to heparin, sulfites, benzyl alcohol, or pork products
• you have active major bleeding, bleeding problems due to the use of heparin, or severe high blood pressure
• you are taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (eg, ibuprofen) or a salicylate (eg, aspirin)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Innohep :

Some medical conditions may interact with Innohep . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have kidney problems; inflammation of the heart due to a bacterial infection; severe, uncontrolled high blood pressure; liver disease; amyloidosis; ulcers; intestinal disease; or a history of stroke, asthma, or vision problems due to diabetes
• if you have a bleeding disorder or a history of brain bleeding or blood conditions
• if you have recently had brain, spine, or eye surgery; an epidural catheter; or a spinal puncture

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Innohep . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

• Nitrates (eg, nitroglycerin) or streptokinase because they may decrease the effectiveness of Innohep
• Activated protein C, parental cephalosporins (eg, cephalexin), NSAIDs (eg, ibuprofen), parental penicillins (eg, amoxicillin), or salicylates (eg, aspirin) because the risk of side effects, such as bleeding, may be increased
• Sulfonylureas (g, glyburide) because their actions and side effects may be increased, resulting in low blood sugar

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Innohep may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Innohep :

Use Innohep as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Innohep is usually administered as an injection at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic. If you are using Innohep at home, carefully follow the injection procedures taught to you by your health care provider.
• Use the proper technique taught to you by your doctor. Inject deep under the skin, NOT into the muscle or a vein.
• If Innohep contains particles or is discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it.
• Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and away from pets. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain local regulations for proper disposal.
• If you miss a dose of Innohep , contact your doctor immediately.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Innohep .

Important safety information:

• Innohep may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Innohep . Using Innohep alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
• Some of these products contain sulfites, which can cause allergic reactions in certain individuals (eg, asthma patients). If you have previously had allergic reactions to sulfites, contact your pharmacist to determine if the product you are taking contains sulfites.
• Innohep may reduce the number of clot-forming cells (platelets) in your blood. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations in which bruising or injury may occur. Report any unusual bleeding, bruising, blood in stools, or dark, tarry stools to your doctor.
• Before you have any medical or dental treatments, emergency care, or surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Innohep .
• Before you begin taking any new prescription or nonprescription medicine, read the ingredients to see if it contains aspirin or ibuprofen. If it does or you are uncertain, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
• LAB TESTS, including complete blood counts, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Innohep during pregnancy. It is unknown if Innohep is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Innohep .

Possible side effects of Innohep :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Back pain; confusion; constipation; diarrhea; headache; irritation or bleeding at the injection site; mild pain; nausea; nosebleed; pain, swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site; rash; stomach pain; urinary tract infection; vomiting.

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bleeding; bloody, black, or tarry stools; chest pain; chills; difficulty urinating; difficulty walking; fever; leg weakness; pink or red urine; prolonged, painful erection; swelling; unusual bleeding or bruising.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include excessive bleeding or bruising.

Store Innohep at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Keep Innohep out of the reach of children and away from pets.
