Treating high blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol is a beta-blocker and diuretic combination. It also increases the elimination of excess fluid, which helps to decrease blood pressure.

Do NOT use Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol or to sulfonamide medicines (eg, sulfamethoxazole, probenecid, glyburide)
  • you have bronchial asthma, uncontrolled heart failure, heart block, a very slow heart rate, or low blood pressure
  • you are unable to urinate
  • you are taking another beta-blocker (eg, propranolol), dofetilide, or mibefradil

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

  • if you are having surgery or receiving anesthesia

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol . Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), cimetidine, clonidine, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), guanethidine, other beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), or reserpine because they may increase the risk of Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol "s side effects
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (eg, ibuprofen), phenytoin, or rifampin because they may decrease this medicine"s effectiveness
  • Antiarrhythmics (eg, disopyramide), calcium channel blockers (eg, verapamil, diltiazem), or cimetidine because side effects, such as slow or irregular heart beat or low blood pressure, may occur
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril), barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), chlorpromazine, clonidine, diazoxide, flecainide, mefloquine, mibefradil, narcotics (eg, codeine), or nifedipine because their actions and the risk of their side effects, as well Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol "s actions and the risk of Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol "s side effects, may be increased
  • Allopurinol, amantadine, digitalis (eg, digoxin), dofetilide, insulin, ketanserin, lithium, other medicines for diabetes (eg, glyburide), theophylline, or thyroxine because their actions and the risk of their side effects may be increased by Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol

This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Hydrochlorothiazide/Propranolol may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
