Goserelin


Generic Name: Goserelin Implant 10.8 mg (GOE-se-rel-in)
Brand Name: Zoladex

Goserelin is used for:

Treating prostate cancer.

Goserelin is a synthetic analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. It works by decreasing the production of testosterone.

Do NOT use Goserelin if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Goserelin

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Goserelin :

Some medical conditions may interact with Goserelin . Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have a history of urinary tract blockage, spine or spinal cord problems, high blood calcium levels, or bone problems (eg, osteoporosis)
  • if you have a family history of bone problems
  • if you have a history of alcohol abuse or regular tobacco use, or you are taking certain medicines that can decrease bone density, such as medicines for seizures or corticosteroids (eg, prednisone)

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Goserelin . However, no specific interactions with Goserelin are known at this time.

How to use Goserelin :

Use Goserelin as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Goserelin is usually administered at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic.
  • If you miss a dose of Goserelin , contact your doctor immediately.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Goserelin .

Important safety information:

  • Goserelin may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Goserelin . Using Goserelin alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
  • Goserelin may cause a loss in bone mineral density. This can lead to thin and/or weak bones.
  • LAB TESTS, including bone density tests and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) or testosterone levels, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Use Goserelin with extreme caution in CHILDREN. Safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Do not use Goserelin if you are pregnant. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. It is unknown if Goserelin is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Goserelin .

Possible side effects of Goserelin :

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Acne; constipation; decreased sex drive; diarrhea; dizziness; erectile dysfunction (impotence); headache; hot flashes; loss of appetite; nausea; pain; sweating; tiredness or weakness; trouble sleeping; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); back pain; bloody vomit; bone pain; breast pain or tenderness; chest pain; dark urine; fever or chills; irregular heartbeat; mood or mental changes; swelling of the arms or legs; stomach pain; trouble urinating or inability to urinate; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; unusual weight gain.

Goserelin is usually handled and stored by a health care provider. If you are using Goserelin at home, store Goserelin as directed by your pharmacist or health care provider.
