Desonide Lotion

Generic Name: Desonide Lotion (DESS-oh-nide)
Brand Name: Examples include DesOwen and LoKara

Desonide Lotion is used for:

Relieving swelling and itching caused by certain skin conditions.

Desonide Lotion is a topical adrenocortical steroid. The precise way it works is unclear, but it is thought to reduce skin inflammation (redness, swelling, itching, and irritation) by stopping the production of certain chemicals in the body.

Do NOT use Desonide Lotion if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Desonide Lotion

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Desonide Lotion:

Some medical conditions may interact with Desonide Lotion. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have a skin infection, measles, thinning of the skin, tuberculosis (TB), chicken pox, or shingles, a positive TB skin test, or have recently had a vaccination

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Desonide Lotion. Because little, if any, of Desonide Lotion is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.

Ask your health care provider if Desonide Lotion may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Desonide Lotion:

Use Desonide Lotion as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Do not cover the treated area(s) with bandages or other dressings unless advised to do so by your health care provider.
  • If you miss a dose of Desonide Lotion, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Desonide Lotion.
