Mechanism of Action

Indications and Usage

Eradication of scabies ( Sarcoptes scabiei ) and symptomatic treatment of pruritic skin.

Contraindications

Primary irritation response to topical medications; hypersensitivity to any component of the product.

Dosage and Administration

Topical Thoroughly massage into the skin of whole body from chin down, paying particular attention to all folds and creases. A second application is advisable 24 hr later. Change clothing and bed linen the next morning. A cleansing bath should be taken 48 hr after last application. Have patient take bath or shower, then thoroughly massage cream or lotion into the skin from the chin down, paying particular attention to all folds and creases. Trim fingernails short and put cream or lotion under fingernails using toothbrush. Wrap used toothbrush in paper and discard in trash. Repeat application in 24 hr then have patient take a cleansing bath 48 hr after the last application.

Topical Massage gently into affected areas until medication is completely absorbed. Repeat as needed.

General Advice

• For topical use only. Not for ophthalmic, oral, or intravaginal use.
• Do not apply to skin that has open wounds, cuts, or sores, or is inflamed.
• Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. If eye or mouth contact occurs, flush immediately and thoroughly with water.
• Shake lotion well before applying.

Storage/Stability

Store lotion and cream at controlled room temperature (59° to 86°F). Keep tightly capped.

• Caution patient or caregiver not to apply to skin areas that have open wounds, cuts, or sores, or is inflamed.
• Caution patient or caregiver to avoid contact with eyes or mouth and that if accidental eye or mouth contact occurs to immediately flush the eyes with water to remove medication. Advise patient or caregiver to notify health care provider if eye or mouth irritation or sensitivity follows accidental exposure.
• Teach patient or caregiver proper technique for applying lotion or cream for treatment of scabies: take shower or bath; use gloves if applying to another person; thoroughly massage cream or lotion (shake lotion well before applying) into the skin from the chin down, paying particular attention to all folds and creases. Trim fingernails short and put cream or lotion under fingernails using toothbrush. Wrap used toothbrush in paper and discard in trash. Repeat application in 24 hr then take a cleansing bath 48 hr after the last application.
• Advise patient or caregiver that all recently used clothing, underwear, pajamas, bed sheets, pillows, and towels should be washed in very hot water or dry cleaned to prevent re-exposure.
• Teach patient or caregiver proper technique for applying lotion or cream for treatment of pruritus as follows: massage lotion (shake well before applying) or cream into affected area(s) until medication is completely absorbed; repeat as needed.
• Advise patient or caregiver to stop using and notify health care provider if irritation or sensitization occurs or if condition does not improve or worsens.
• Advise patient or caregiver that follow-up visits may be necessary and to keep appointments.
