Carnitor Solution

Generic Name: Levocarnitine Injection Solution (lee-voe-KAR-ni-teen)
Brand Name: Carnitor

Carnitor Solution is used for:

Treating carnitine deficiency in patients with kidney problems who are on dialysis and patients with metabolism problems that may cause low levels of levocarnitine in the body. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Carnitor Solution is an amino acid derivative. It works by replacing levocarnitine in the body when your body does not produce enough.

Do NOT use Carnitor Solution if:

you are allergic to any ingredient in Carnitor Solution

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Carnitor Solution:

Some medical conditions may interact with Carnitor Solution. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
if you have seizures

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Carnitor Solution. However, no specific interactions with Carnitor Solution are known at this time.

How to use Carnitor Solution:

Use Carnitor Solution as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Carnitor Solution is usually administered as an injection at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic.
If Carnitor Solution contains particles or is discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it.
Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain local regulations for proper disposal.
If you miss a dose of Carnitor Solution, contact your doctor.

Important safety information:

Carnitor Solution may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Carnitor Solution. Using Carnitor Solution alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
Do not use products containing D,L-carnitine (vitamin BT), which are available without a prescription and in health food stores, without first checking with your doctor.
LAB TESTS, including blood carnitine levels and blood chemistry, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Carnitor Solution during pregnancy. It is unknown if Carnitor Solution is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Carnitor Solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Carnitor Solution:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Bad taste in mouth; blood in the stool; diarrhea; dizziness; fever; headache; mild muscle weakness; nausea; pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site; stomach discomfort or pain; unpleasant body odor; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); confusion; increased thirst or urination; seizures; severe muscle weakness; severe or continued nausea or vomiting; tingling or numbness of the skin; unusual tiredness.

Proper storage of Carnitor Solution:

Store Carnitor Solution at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Carnitor Solution out of the reach of children and away from pets.
