Carbastat Ocular

Carbastat Ocular is used for:

Contracting the pupil during and immediately following surgery. It is also reduces eye pressure in the first 24 hours after cataract surgery.

Carbastat Ocular is a cholinergic agent/miotic. The exact way Carbastat Ocular works is not fully understood. It works by constricting the iris and other parts of the eye, resulting in reduction of eye pressure.

Do NOT use Carbastat Ocular if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Carbastat Ocular
• you have acute swelling of the iris

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Carbastat Ocular:

Some medical conditions may interact with Carbastat Ocular. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have heart problems, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, stomach or intestinal ulcers or spasm, or urinary tract blockage
• if you have an overactive thyroid or Parkinson disease

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Carbastat Ocular. However, no specific interactions with Carbastat Ocular are known at this time.

How to use Carbastat Ocular:

Use Carbastat Ocular as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Carbastat Ocular is usually administered as an injection at your doctor"s office, hospital, or clinic. Ask your doctor any questions you may have about Carbastat Ocular.
• If Carbastat Ocular contains particles or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it.
• If you miss a dose of Carbastat Ocular, contact your doctor right away.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Carbastat Ocular.

Important safety information:

• Carbastat Ocular may cause blurred vision. Make sure your vision is clear before driving or performing any task that requires good vision.
• Carbastat Ocular is not recommended for use in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss your doctor the benefits and risks of using Carbastat Ocular during pregnancy. It is unknown if Carbastat Ocular is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using Carbastat Ocular, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Carbastat Ocular:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Bladder tightness; change in vision; flushing; headache; indigestion; stomach cramps; stomach upset; sweating; urge to urinate.

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blisters on the eye; blurred or decreased vision; cloudy vision; eye or eyelid swelling; eye pain or redness; increased tearing; sensitivity to light.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include diarrhea; fainting; increased saliva; increased sweating; irregular heartbeat; nausea; vomiting.

Store Carbastat Ocular at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Carbastat Ocular out of the reach of children and away from pets.
