Beta-Val Lotion

Generic Name: Betamethasone Valerate Lotion (bay-ta-METH-a-sone VAL-eh-rate)
Brand Name: Beta-Val

Beta-Val Lotion is used for:

Reducing itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions.

Beta-Val Lotion is a topical corticosteroid. It works by depressing the formation, release, and activity of different cells and chemicals that cause swelling, redness, and itching.

Do NOT use Beta-Val Lotion if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Beta-Val Lotion

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Beta-Val Lotion:

Some medical conditions may interact with Beta-Val Lotion. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have thinning of the skin, a skin infection, tuberculosis (TB), chickenpox, shingles, measles, or a positive TB skin test, or have recently been vaccinated

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Beta-Val Lotion. Because little, if any, of Beta-Val Lotion is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.

Ask your health care provider if Beta-Val Lotion may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Beta-Val Lotion:

Use Beta-Val Lotion as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Do not mix Beta-Val Lotion with other medications.
  • Shake well before each use.
  • Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Beta-Val Lotion, unless your hands are part of the treated area.
  • Do not cover the areas being treated with bandages or other dressings unless advised to do so by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of Beta-Val Lotion, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Beta-Val Lotion.

Important safety information:

  • Avoid long-term use, especially near the eyes, on the face, on the genital and rectal areas, and in skin folds.
  • Beta-Val Lotion is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes or eyelids. If you get Beta-Val Lotion in your eyes, immediately flush with cool tap water.
  • Do not use Beta-Val Lotion for other skin conditions at a later time.
  • If Beta-Val Lotion was prescribed to treat the diaper area of a child, avoid using tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.
  • Beta-Val Lotion should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Beta-Val Lotion while you are pregnant. It is not known if Beta-Val Lotion is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Beta-Val Lotion, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
