Beta-Val Cream

Generic Name: Betamethasone Valerate Cream and Ointment (bay-ta-METH-a-sone VAL-eh-rate)
Brand Name: Beta-Val

Beta-Val Cream is used for:

Reducing itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions.

Beta-Val Cream is a topical corticosteroid. It works by depressing the formation, release, and activity of different cells and chemicals that cause swelling, redness, and itching.

Do NOT use Beta-Val Cream if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Beta-Val Cream

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Beta-Val Cream:

Some medical conditions may interact with Beta-Val Cream. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have thinning of the skin, a skin infection, tuberculosis (TB), chickenpox, shingles, measles, or a positive TB skin test, or have recently been vaccinated

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Beta-Val Cream. Because little, if any, of Beta-Val Cream is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.

Ask your health care provider if Beta-Val Cream may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Beta-Val Cream:

Use Beta-Val Cream as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Do not mix Beta-Val Cream with other medications.
  • Apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Beta-Val Cream, unless your hands are part of the treated area.
  • Do not cover the areas being treated with bandages or other dressings unless advised to do so by your doctor.
  • If you miss a dose of Beta-Val Cream, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Beta-Val Cream.

Important safety information:

  • Avoid long-term use, especially near the eyes, on the face, on the genital and rectal areas, and in skin folds.
  • Beta-Val Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes or eyelids. If you get Beta-Val Cream in your eyes, immediately flush with cool tap water.

It is not known if Beta-Val Cream is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Beta-Val Cream, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
